Doolin Hostel

What’s in Doolin

Sun set at Crab Island

Doolin is located at the foot of the Cliffs of Moher to the south, and the beginning of the Burren to the north. Doolin also has the shortest ferry crossing to the Aran Islands. Doolin Pier is also the only port for the Cliffs of Moher Cruises.

Midway on the Wild Atlantic Way

Doolin is a small coastal village that has been inhabited for thousands of years. With placenames dating back to the first tribes of Ireland such as Toomullin. From Court Cairns and other Megalithic tombs, Stone Axe Factories, Medieval Castles and Monastic Church Ruins. Doolin is full of Celtic history and local character.

Doolin is most famous for its daily Traditional Irish Music

#Trad365 is heard nightly in its lively local pubs of O’Connors, Fitz’s, McGanns and McDermmots. Showcasing some of the best local talent every night of the year. But what sets Doolin apart from other popular destinations are the local family businesses who pride themselves on providing a genuine Irish welcome, professional services with top quality offerings, while maintaining the local relaxed country charm. You won’t find any chain hotels, restaurants, bright lights or large shops here.

Doolin is surrounded by World Class Attractions

The Aran Islands, Doolin Cave, and the Burren and Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Geopark – there is an abundance of activities such as rock climbing, surfing, sea kayaking, mountain biking, horse riding, and hiking to name but a few.

Doolin Festivals

The end of January welcomes the Doolin Writers’ Weekend, where short stories are the order of the day. The Russell Memorial Weekend attracts the best of traditional Irish Music musicians from around the world, on the last weekend of February. Followed by the unique local St Patrick’s Day Parade on March 17th, where all the locals get together to celebrate in style. Doolin Surfest takes place near the end of March, and the famous Doolin Folk Festival kicks off the summer in mid-June.

June welcomes the infamous Doolin Folk Festival

The gold standard in bespoke festivals and the Doolin Heritage Weekend celebrates our unique and diverse history and culture.

Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival

That’s right, we have our own local matchmaking festival! In September, head for Lisdoonvarna, our neighbour town, for the month-long matchmaking festival.

Check out our calendar of events to see what is happening in and around the area or keep up to date on our Facebook page

But a word to the wise – Doolin may be small, but we have a big character… don’t make the mistake of many and stay for just a night or a day trip, but also don’t be surprised if you never want to leave!
